A Medical Transcriptionist is a clerical job in which a person transcribes dictation, but specialized for the medical field. A Medical Transcriptionist may work for a doctor’s office, hospital, clinical laboratory, etc. They transcribe dictation of pathologists’ reports, clinical lab reports, radiologists’ reports, patient medical records, etc. You need a good program where you learn Dictaphone transcription, and medical terminology. You need excellent keyboarding, vocabulary, spelling, punctuation and other grammatical skills, knowledge of MS Word and/or other word processing software, etc. You ought to be able to complete such a course within a year.

Pay is at the upper end of clerical work payscales, but less than Office Manager, Executive Secretary, senior Administrative Assistants. Comparable to or a bit less than Legal Secretaries, less than Legal Administrative Assistants. Any hospital is a good place to start applying for jobs after you complete your training program.

Go to Monster.com. But most importantly call Physician’s offices. Send them letters and describe your abilities well and in detail. Basically, sell yourself.
