  1. Yes you can do this from home but the major misconception is that it is immediate. IT IS NOT. You could wait possibly two years or more before the company will give you the tools and allow you to work from home. Then again there are people who have been working for 10 and still do not work at home. Whether or not it is their choice I cannot say.

Not to mention for the most part the whole "career" is a waste of time and energy. Even after schooling the job is still low pay. Many people can make more working at WalMart.

So in the end I suggest you looking into something else much more worth while. Good luck.

  2. The major bulk of medical transcription work in the U.S. has been greatly curtailed by state privacy laws as it pertains to medical records and patient confidentiality. The vast majority of medical records are kept in recordkeeping departments within medical centers and any transcription work is done "in-house," not "outsourced." So, beware of any offers which promote online in home medical transcription work–there are scammers out there.

    Good luck!

  3. I was a medical transcriptionist working from home for 13 years.

Many transcriptionists get their training through a course of study while others carry their medical terminology knowledge with them from other health related fields. You would need to get the terminology down, and then get started. Many companies want experience so there’s a catch-22. However, doctors and hospitals may be hiring, and after a time you can work from home as many transcriptionists do.

Remote transcriptionists accessing hospital systems usually do so through a VPN.
