  2. Yes and you have to work for a Doc or a hospital but you have to have training. My sis does this and makes alot of money but she has been doing for a long time and she is good and fast. Ask your local comm college for info.

  3. Why work for others? Go to a clinic to contact doctors and do the service yourself. They make good money doing that, and you'll get pennies.

  4. It is usually not written notes you are working from but dictation into a dictaphone. This is played back on a transcription machine (provided by the company you work for) so you can adjust the speed, pause the playback, etc., while you work.

Courses you will need from the community college include medical terminology, transcription, and keyboarding. The medical terminology class is essential.

Once you have those courses, you can talk to instructors at your college about getting in touch with a company or apply at the local hospital. They may want you to work on-site at the hospital before you can work at home.

It's good money, but varies widely depending on where you live.

  5. A doctor will go in to see a patient–writing nothing down. As soon as he leaves that patient, he will go into his office and talk into a recording machine (telling everything that he wanted to remember on that patient). This has to be typed up on each patient and put into the patient's file. This typing can be done in your home.

  7. As previously stated doctord dictate all the information about the patient that must go into the patients medical chart. There isn't enough time for them to write everything manually. The tapes are given to a transcriptionist who must then type everything for the patients chart. Accuracy of course is very important since the chart is the legal record of the patient's medical treatment.
Accuracy can be difficult since doctors tend to dictate as fast as they can and many doctors either do not speak clearly or may have accents which make understanding the dictation difficult at times. However, individuals get to be very adept at unravelling what is actually being said after gaining some experience. Because the dictation is recorded it is easy for the recorded material to be picked up or delivered so the work can be done at home. Often the medical transcriptionist may be paid for each line of dictation transcribed. Of course, those individuals who are very good at listening and who have the ability to type quickly are able to make more money in a shorter period of time. So if you are very good this can be very lucrative and there is a good deal of flexibility as to when you can work. You can work for individual doctors, hospitals, medical group practices, trancription services, etc. With some experience and a little business know how you can start your own transcription service.

In California some of the adult schools have medical trancription classes and it cost next to nothing to attend They also have government grants called Pell Grants available to pay tuition and expenses. Also, there is no out-of-state tuition at adult schools in California.

In the Los Angeles area there is a school called Hacienda La Puente Adult Education in La Puente, CA that offers this and other medical courses. I'm sure other states must have similarly situated adult schools.

I know a lot of people who have graduated from there in a year or less and are now doing very well.

    Good luck!

  8. Those jobs are easy to come by and all you do is type what the doctor says and send it back to him if you are working from home. You make good money at it if you are working at a doctor's office. The nice part about this is if your feeling a little under the weather you can always work from home.
